Intel Capital invests $20M in Telligent
Tuesday, September 23 2008

I'm thrilled to announce that Intel Capital, Intel's global investment organization, has made a $20M investment in Telligent. You can read the full press release here: Intel Capital to Acquire $20M Stake in Telligent.
I started Telligent back in 2004 with about $5,000. Since then we've grown into a 140+ person profitable business. Today millions of people use Telligent's software everyday with customers such as Microsoft, NASDAQ, NFL, Intel, MySpace.com, and Dell (to name a few).
Telligent was the first to offer a suite base social computing solution: Community Server and was recently recognized as one of the top enterprise social computing solutions in an InfoWorld Lab Test.
However, as the market for social software continues to grow -- predicted to be $4B+ by 2012 -- and the competitive landscape continues to shift we felt that we needed to invest more into the business. To do so meant finding a strong capital partner to enable us to make some big, aggressive investments.
In the past 18 months we've spoken with over 25 different venture capital and private equity groups about Telligent's business. Of those 25 we had more serious discussions with only a handful. In the end Intel's perspective of the landscape best matched ours: a solutions focused business. Not just software and not just services, but both.
Our plan is to use this investment towards sales & marketing activities as well as additional product research and development.
We'll share more details about our roadmap and plans at our 2nd annual social computing conference: in.telligent in Dallas, TX USA October 20-22nd.
